Welcome Katie and Amber

Hello my name is Katy and I have very recently moved to Bristol and to Terri’s yard with my 18 year old part bred Arab mare called Amber. I’ve been very fortunate to have owned Amber for nine years now and we’ve done a bit of everything during our time together! From quite a competitive start we did a lot of showjumping and cross country competitions which Amber really enjoys! We’ve also done a fair bit of carriage driving, I did some work with Rene Schoop who kindly took me out a couple of times with his team of Lipizzaner horses which inspired me to then train Amber to also pull a carriage. More recently we’ve turned to doing endurance riding and have been a part of Endurance GB for a couple of years which we both really enjoy doing both competitively and pleasure rides.

I’ve been a member of Terri’s yard for a couple of weeks now and Amber has settled in very well! Theres so much going on at the yard to get involved in, from going on hacks around the yard which I’ve recently done and thoroughly enjoyed! It’s amazing having the opportunity to go on hacks around the fields at the livery yard without having to go on the roads. This is especially beneficial for me and Amber as the majority of the riding I do is hacking based, (flat work isn’t our biggest talent!!). As well as going to my first stable management class run by Terri on Monday evening, and hopefully not only gaining more knowledge but also potentially working towards my BHS stage 1 exam. In my short time here everyone I’ve met has been very helpful and kind, as well as prior to my arrival giving me much help and guidance in trying to find somewhere to live in Bristol before I started my new job!

I think the biggest factor that made me want to bring Amber to the yard was the community that Terri has established there. I’ve never been to a livery yard were everyone is so warm and welcoming and helpful. It’s made a stressful move from Manchester a lot less stressful! And I’m really looking forward to seeing where this year takes us :)
